How to Rip 4K UHD Blu-ray, Regular Blu-ray, & DVD to Computer with MakeMKV & HandBrake

This tutorial will teach you how to rip 4K UHD Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, and DVD discs to a computer with MakeMKV & HandBrake.

Both MakeMKV and HandBrake are free programs that may be installed on Windows PC or Mac. Links for these applications may be found below.

MakeMKV will rip a movie or TV show to a single MKV file that can then later be compressed with HandBrake.

HandBrake will take a large media file and compress it into a smaller file which will be easier to play through home networks and take up less space on home media servers such as Plex.

Plex Media Server, Emby, and Jellyfin are media servers that can aggregate all of your UHD 4K Blu-rays, regular Blu-rays, DVDs, and more. This is a great way to copy or backup all of your discs to your home media server.
