Affordability is contributing to disparities in health care across the United States
According to a KFF report, workplace health care premiums rose 7% last year. Rising costs has many struggling to pay medical bills and is raising new questions about what needs to be done to fix the US health care system.
Morgan Health CEO Dan Mendelson joins the Live show alongside Yahoo Finance Health Reporter Anjalee Khemlani to discuss the report, the cost of health care for workers and employers, and more.
Mendelson comments on the rise and what it means for employers: "Costs are going up, and that's a major issue for small businesses, as well as larger businesses. That's an indisputable fact. I think the issue, though, is bigger than that. Because, we see disparities irrespective of whether, you know, an employee is well covered or not. And so these disparities go back to the way that health care is being delivered, and in the nature of how people are being treated in the healthcare system. So what's really important is that employers understand the disparities and they're not just about the rise in spending and they hold their providers and insurance companies accountable for making improvements in those areas. "
