How to Build Sleek Free-Floating Wall Shelves!

Details:
How to build incredibly strong, custom free floating shelves out of generic slab doors. Complete cost as shown: $90. See below for more instructions and a list of materials.

Dimensions as shown: 9" deep, 63" long

Weight capacity per shelf: 60-80lbs (based on my personal experience only!) They likely hold considerably more weight than this. The wood glue used during the installation process creates a very strong and permanent bond.

Spacing: The shelves are spaced approximately 15" apart measured from their center. I have 8' ceilings. The bottom shelf is 15" from the floor, leaving about 20" from the top shelf to the ceiling.

Materials list:
3 plain wood hollow core slab door = $18 each, 3 -2x4s= $3 each, 20 lag screws=$.30 cents each, wood glue = $5, paint= $10, caulk= $4, finish nails $2. *Each door makes 1 shelf up to 80 inches long.

Finally: I like to caulk the seam against the wall and shelf to create a clean, seamless look.
