Ep. #23 5 Tips to Help Kids say R

Speech-Language Pathologist, Avital (Tali) Kellerstein shares 5 tips to help kids correct their R sound! Tali is a PROMPT Certified Speech-Language Pathologist and owner of The Speak Boutique.

0:54 Tip #1: EXTREME R - This term was coined by my good friend Elissa Flagg, S-LP to describe the initial exaggerated position that often helps kids establish that R sound.

1:30 Tip #2: FLOSS: How to use a floss wand to help get the tongue into position.

2:05 Tip #3: L to R Another GREAT strategy - start with an L, and slowly slide back to R.

2:46 Tip #4: RAISE THE ROOF: For some kids it is helpful to see where the tongue stabilizes on the roof of the mouth - aka the palate for R.

4:45 Tip #5: TENSION AND RELAXATION: Sometimes tightening or loosening the tongue muscles while attempting the R helps get the sound just right!
