Micro Pavé Diamond Disk Ring - Natural Cognac|Brown|Champagne Diamonds

The iconic Van Dooren Diamonds Brown Disk Ring.

In this video you get to see the making of and the diamond setting of the stones. The stones used are natural brown / cognac/ champagne diamonds in multiple shades. These are set super close to one another using high level micro pavé diamond setting to create a smooth and symmetrical pattern.

The weight and size oft he diamonds vary from 0.07 ct to 0.005 ct. We start from the center with one big stone and move our way outwards using a tight layout of stones. Around the center stone 10 more diamonds of about 0.005/0.007 ct each are set. The next circle includes bigger stones up to 0.03 to 0.035 ct each. The outside circle counts 20 natural brown diamonds which consist of 2 sizes of stones. Alternating between 0.01 ct and 0.02 ct each or 1.30 mm to 1.70mm.

The holes or seats are drilled with a drill bit of 0.7mm and further open up with round carbide burrs to the required stone size. Afterwards the outer filet or bright cut is created with a high gloss polished carbide graver of about 60 degrees with a heel polished on it. The ceradent polishing wheels are used to create these high gloss gravers and work great.

Finally tiny prongs are created by removing excess metal with a flat graver into the seat. Then, gently the brown/cognac/champagne stones are put in place into the ,relatively soft, yellow gold. With a tiny self made prong pusher the golden prongs are bent over the diamonds thereby holding tightly two or more diamonds at the same time.

The ring was later polished with high gloss diamond polish.

All in all this was a beautiful ring to work on.
