The Overprotection Misconception | Annika Sunkara | TEDxInnovationDr
We get it, you love your kids, and you want the best for them. You may not have grown up with all the possibilities that you might have liked, so now, once you have kids of your own, you want to protect them and give them all the things you didn't have. You might also want to shelter them from certain thoughts or ideas. The thing is though that young people learn and develop by being exposed to new and different ideas and by doing things for themselves. This presentation explores these issues. Annika Sunkara is a junior at Dublin Jerome High School. She is a varsity track and field athlete and 2020 State Semifinalist and National Qualifier in speech and debate. She also takes great interest in sociology and journalism. Passionate about politics and social justice, Annika champions youth civic engagement. As a competitive persuasive speaker, she has come to recognize how much power teenagers’ voices hold. She believes education and open discussion should start young, so her generation’s impact on the world can happen now. She hopes her talk inspires kids to believe they can make a difference regardless of their age, and encourages adults to help make that a reality. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
