सप्तश्रृंगी हे महाराष्ट्रातील अर्धपीठ आहे. सप्तशृंगी देवी बद्दल अनेक दंतकथा प्रचलित आहेत. ज्या यादेवीची महती सांगतात. ब्रह्मदेवाच्या कमंडलूपासून गिरिजा महानदी प्रकटली. तिचे रूप म्हणजे सप्तश्रृंगी देवी असल्याचं सांगितलं जात. तर शुंभनिशुंभ व महिषासुरांचा वध केल्यानंतर देवीने आराम करण्यासाठी या गडावर वास्तव्य केल्याचे म्हटले जाते. सप्तश्रृंगी गडावर महिषासुराचे एक मंदिर आहे. येथे देवीने त्रिशुळाने महिषासुराच्या धडापासून शीर वेगळे केले. त्यामुळे पर्वताला मोठी भेग पडली होती. जी आजही दिसते, असे म्हणतात. तर सह्याद्रीच्या डोंगरमाथ्यावर जिथे देवी निवास करते त्या सह्याद्रीच्या कड्याला सात शिखरे आहेत. त्यावरून या गडाला सप्तश्रृंगी म्हटले जाते. तर एका आख्यायिकेनुसार, इंद्रजिताच्या शस्त्रामुळे बेशुद्ध झालेल्या लक्ष्मणाला शुद्धीवर आणण्यासाठी हनुमानाने द्रोणागिरी पर्वत उचलून आणताना त्याचा काही भाग जमिनीवर पडला. तो म्हणजे सप्तश्रृंगी, असे सांगण्यात येते.

It is said that it is visible even today. On the top of the Sahyadri mountain range where the Goddess resides, the Sahyadri range has seven peaks. Due to this, this fort is called Saptashrungi. According to one legend, while Hanuman was lifting the Dronagiri mountain to bring Lakshmana, who had been unconscious due to Indrajit's weapon, to his senses, some of it fell to the ground. It is said that it is the Saptashrungi.
