First run Werkspoor TMAB 278 after overhaul

This Werkspoor TMAB 278 engine has been in the possession of the SHVP for almost four years. The engine served in pumping station Katwijk, where it was driving one of the pumps.

The engine type is TMAB 278, according Werkspoor standard naming: it's a Trunk piston engine with Mechanical injection, built to the A-frame principle with a Büchi charging system. The bore is 27 cm and it has 8 cylinders. The maximum power of the engine is 700 horsepower at 350 rpm.

When the engine was acquired 4 years ago, there was no room in the old location of the SHVP. Therefore the engine was stored outside, covered with an awning. Despite these measures moisture and rain had a devastating effect on the engine.

In addition to these mechanical problems, there was a lot of work installing the cooling, fuel, exhaust and starting air system. After more than a year's work, on Saturday October the 5th the engine was started again for the first time.
