Why I Don’t Run My Laser Without an Enclosure I DIY enclosure on a budget everyone can built

This is Part 2 of my DIY laser enclosure build for the ACMER S2 Pro 48W Laser Engraver – turning a simple wooden box into a safer, more practical setup for everyday use.

In this video I take things a step further by improving both safety and usability. I treated the internal timber frame with a fire-resistant spray to add an extra layer of protection, especially important when running longer engraving jobs. It’s not a replacement for proper supervision, but it adds peace of mind.

I also installed a dedicated webcam and calibrated it inside LightBurn so I can frame designs accurately without opening the lid. This makes positioning materials much easier and speeds up workflow.

To keep everything clean and practical, I hard-wired the extension cable and airline neatly into the enclosure. The key thing is the laser can still be removed at any time, so the machine isn’t permanently fixed in place. If I need to take it out for larger projects or use it elsewhere in the workshop, I can.

This enclosure is designed to be simple, affordable, and achievable with materials from a local DIY store.
