Is Value Investing Dead? Value vs. Growth In 2023 (learning from Howard Marks)

Is value investing dead? Is value investing outdated? At least media headlines want you to believe this! But value comes in many forms. The performance of US tech stocks during the crazy 2020 market has certainly not helped the case of value investors as the historical performance of value over the last 14 years lags the performance of growth investing. But I think the dichotomy between value and growth is somewhat artificial. Value investing doesn't mean that one can only invest in stocks trading at low price-to-earnings multiples or low price-to-book ratios. No, value can be found in many forms.

In this video, I talk about Howard Mark's latest memo "Something of Value." Over the last couple of years, Howard Marks has released some excellent pieces of writing, but I think his latest memo is possibly the best memo he has ever written.
