Vera Deep Purple Bougainvillea | 2018 Update

✨ I learned that strong winter wind is bad for the bougainvillea and this year I will protect them from it. The planting angle of the tree may change in the future to allow for better weight distribution and to accommodate the dead part of the tree.

I didn't like the new substrate mix of 50% diatomaceous earth and 50% perlite. It stays a little wetter than I would like. Mixing in 25% diatomaceous earth, 25% turface, and 50% perlite would be good in my gardening zone. I find 50% turface and 50% perlite mix dries out too quickly here.

I bought a few more bougainvilleas this summer. Hopefully, we can figure out a way to keep them from dying back. Increasing sample size will help in this venture!
