Eric Swalwell vows crackdown on utilities for campaign promise

Democratic frontrunner for California governor Eric Swalwell insists to voters that he will crack down on utilities to lower skyrocketing energy costs — but he’s quietly pocketed a fortune in campaign cash from PG&E, records show.

Swalwell continued taking donations from the widely-despised utility — which was also blamed for plunging much of San Francisco into darkness five days before Christmas last year — even after it sparked the catastrophic Camp Fire in 2018 that killed 85 people and wiped out an entire town in Paradise, Calif.

California electricity bills have skyrocketed by 39% over the past six years, thanks in part to destructive wildfires that have ripped through the state.
