Part 4 How to Chair a Meeting With Confidence: How to Handle Debate/Discussion During a Meeting

Meetings can be more productive if the members in the meeting understand how to properly debate. It is the responsibility of the chair to make sure that board members are keeping their debate focused on the motion that is on the floor. Too many times, board members are given the floor only to waste time in debate or discussion that is not about the motion at hand. As a chair you need to learn how to make an intervention so that you can get the board member back on track.

Learn how to make interventions to keep your board members on track!

"I would like to remind you to please keep your discussion/debate regarding the motion on the floor."

"I would like to remind the board that we are opening discussion on the following motion. Please keep all discussion or debate on the motion."

In this video trainer, coach and professional speaker Susan Leahy MA CSP from RobertsRulesMadeSimple.com will share the three step process that she reaches her board members. It is important that as a chair you take responsibility for training your board how to properly debate. This will save you time, energy and life! Too much time is wasted because board members do not know how to debate or discuss and issue. Get your board members vested in learning how to debate to get work done.
