Jussi Björling In Last Concert - Donna Non Vidi Mai - Live Recorded 1960-Aug-5
• Jussi Björling (1911-Feb-5 - 1960-Sep-9) in one of his last public concerts in Gothenburg, Sweden, Live Recorded August 5, 1960. With the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Nils Grevillius conducting.
• “Donna Non Vidi Mai” (In Italian) from Puccini’s “MANON LESCAUT”.
• “The concert in Gothenburg on August 5, 1960 was the last occasion on which Jussi Björling and I collaborated. We had then been closely associated for three decades - ever since the day in July 1930 when I conducted Manon Lescaut in Stockholm, and Jussi’s name appeared for the first time on the Royal Court Opera’s playbill.” “At the time of his death Jussi Björling stood at the height of his career. He used his voice as masterly as Kreisler used his violin and Casals his cello. During my fifty years with music I have never heard anything so wonderful - that endless beauty of tone, his ability to modulate and phrase. “ - by Nils Grevillius.
• Photograph was Jussi at the rehearsal on 5th August with GSO.
• Transferred from LP - “JUSSI BJÖRLING IN CONCERT” (LM-2784) by DENON DP-900M with DENON DL-102 Mono Cartridge by SONY PCM-D100 RECORDER by Rico.
