How AI sees the world

How do AI bots see the world?

This is an example of a sensory system that allows intelligent agents to observe the world around them. Most of the videos on this channel involving intelligent agents have utilized some variation of this system to emulate embodiment within a relatively simple problem space.

As you can see, a simple bot moves from place-to-place as the sensory apparatus attached to it picks up the visual signals from pellets scattered throughout the map.

In the top right-hand corner, you can see a visualization of the sensory input in real-time. The rays extending from the agent's body represent the visual field.

The areas between rays are columns which contain rows of cells, forming a 2-dimensional structure through which the world may be seen. This structure provides a foundation on which to build convolutional layers that can learn features in the input space and build up abstract representations on top of the raw sensory data.
