This video goes over how to replace a MAP sensor on a 2012 Chevy Captiva with a 3.0 motor. It should be the same process for any 2012-2015 Chevy Captiva with a 3.0. The car's ECM uses a Manifold Absolute Pressure [MAP] sensor to measure vacuum levels in the intake manifold, which indicates engine load. It uses this to calculate correct engine spark advance and fuel injector pulse for best performance. The map sensor converts vacuum/manifold pressure to the ECM computer so it can control the engine load that it is under. If the map sensor fails, it can cause issues with the fuel system and vehicle performance. If an ECM can’t accurately detect engine load, it will affect the air fuel ratio becoming rich [too much fuel] or lean [too little fuel], affecting the vehicles overall driving ability. It compensates for weather, altitude or your various driving conditions. Signs of a bad MAP would be a check engine light, poor idle, hard starting, misfiring, a change in fuel consumption or lack of engine performance.
