Coach Cheryl Reeve of Team USA is at odds with a reporter over Caitlin Clark

Coach Cheryl Reeve of Team USA is at odds with a reporter over Caitlin Clark.

There were rumors that Team USA head coach Cheryl Reeve was mean to Caitlin Clark on social media before the Fever guard was kicked off the Olympic squad. Reeve denied these claims.

Cheryl Reeve quickly pushed back against Christine Brennan after a reporter from USA Today said that the head coach of Team USA was to blame for Caitlin Clark not going to the Paris Olympics.

It was said that Clark's exclusion from the Team USA squad was only a "basketball decision" the summer before.

The star of the Indiana Fever didn't seem to mind being passed over for a reserve spot. She said she felt "lucky" not to have been picked. Clark said at the time, "I think it just gives you something to work for."

"It's just a dream." I hope I can get there one day. I believe it's just a little more drive. You remember that. The next time around, in four years, at the LA Olympics in 2028, I hope to be there.

Even so, Reeve and her team got a lot of criticism for leaving Clark out. Brennan said that the Minnesota Lynx coach showed her dislike for the Iowa product on social media.

In a series of posts on X, Reeve said she didn't like WNBA ads that only talked about Clark and the Fever's practice game. "Here are Cheryl Reeve's posts on X from May 3 that talk about and name Caitlin Clark," Brennan wrote in June of last year.
