CaoSlayer's Current State Of Monster Hunter Rise Gunlance Before Update 3.0 AND A BIG THANKS.
I have never seen in my life a patch change so much the state of a weapon than this update.
And more than the gunlance introduced, it was two big factors: Bagelgoose armor and the missing craftable decorations.
In 1.0 was almost impossible to do a good build decent for both shelling and melee without a god like charm.
You could get at most between 90 and 100 affinity devoting your whole set into it and that was all, sacrificing all your extra skills like evade extender or guard.
Didn’t help at all that every single armor with weakness exploit sucked. You had to get a weakness exploit 2 charm or forget about a gunlance melee build.
Even doing a shelling build was tricky, you couldn’t dream about having wirebug whisperer 3, guard 5 and evade extender 3 all together in a single build.
You were forced to use Rhenoplos arms and Nargacuga belt regardless of what you build.
Bagel armor changed all that.
Every single piece of armor is optimal or near optimal if you want artillery, load up and guard in your build.
The only three armor pieces that you can justify changing are the helm, chest and arms, otherwise you are throwing guard points away for nothing in exchange.
And you get a lot of flexibility thanks for these armor pieces, basically you can do any build you dream.
Especially with the craftable decorations.
Protective Polish, Good luck and Weakness Exploit are the most gamechanging decorations introduced for gunlance.
Protective Polish allows you to keep small polls of blue and white sharpness being the biggest damage bonuses you will have for the least cost.
Even with shelling spending now only one point per shell, gunlance still eats through sharpness so fast that protective polish is usually superior to razor sharp… skill that also got decorations.
Weakness exploit decos are straight forward. You no longer need a Weakness Exploit charm but you can roll easier to get Evade extender or wirebug charms, makes dps build much much easier to do.
And finally good luck is great for the few people who are still only using shelling attacks, maximizing your rewards when you can’t do more damage…
That is the biggest shift in the update 2.0.
Shelling did peak in 1.0 and we didn’t get any kind of upgrade in 2.0 while at the same time going for extra melee damage is easier than ever.
Conclusion: Every shell based build is now weak.
