The most historic part of Quebec City, Old Quebec/Vieux-Quebec, is surrounded by fortified city walls. Old Quebec is thus designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the early 1500’s, the region where Quebec currently stands was home to the indigenous village of Stadacona.
