The Pyramids of Giza are some of the most iconic and enduring symbols of ancient Egypt—and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (the Great Pyramid specifically). They’re located just outside modern-day Cairo on the Giza Plateau.

The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops)
Oldest and largest of the three pyramids.

Built for Pharaoh Khufu (ruled c. 2589–2566 BCE) during the Fourth Dynasty.

Originally stood at 146.6 meters (481 ft)—now about 138.8 m (455 ft) due to erosion and loss of the casing stones.

Estimated to contain over 2.3 million blocks of limestone.

Interior includes the King’s Chamber, Queen’s Chamber, and the Grand Gallery.

Pyramid of Khafre (Chephren)
Built for Khufu’s son, Pharaoh Khafre.

Slightly smaller than Khufu’s but appears taller due to being on higher ground.

Sphinx of Giza is part of this complex—believed to represent Khafre himself.

Has remnants of the original smooth casing stones near the top.

Pyramid of Menkaure
Smallest of the three, built for Pharaoh Menkaure (Khafre’s son).

About 65 meters (213 ft) tall.

The mortuary complex was less elaborate but still significant.

The Giza Plateau
Also includes:

The Great Sphinx

Causeways, valley temples, and boat pits

Several queen’s pyramids and mastaba tombs for nobles

Still a subject of debate and research.

Most theories involve ramps, sledges, and a large labor force (likely skilled workers, not slaves).

The precision in alignment and scale shows deep knowledge of engineering and astronomy.

Alignment & Astronomy
The Great Pyramid is almost perfectly aligned with the cardinal points.

Some believe the layout of the pyramids may be linked to Orion’s Belt, part of the Orion Correlation Theory.

Legacy
The Great Pyramid is the only surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Giza remains a major archaeological site with ongoing excavations revealing tombs, boats, tools, and more.

They are not your friends until they have defended you in your absence... gets?! ✌😬
