Trying new instruments: Shakuhachi

Only had this a couple weeks. For the past couple years I've been trying different folk instruments and other instruments such as Irish flute, cello, and dulcimer. It all started when I had a homeschool preschool (when schools were closed) and a retired music teacher gave me instruments from her classroom to use with the children. I have only been playing this beautiful Japanese shakuhachi "bamboo" flute for a couple weeks. It was made out of wood by Geoffrey Ellis. I'm grateful for his talents with wooden flutes as I seem to have a slight allergy or respiratory irritation to bamboo at the moment.

I love the meditation and prayer history of this flute, especially given its tradition within Zen. Blowing long notes is very centering.
