GPU not working after changing thermal pads?

GPU not working after you changed the thermal pads? I made a simple video when I encountered this problem. And my guess is that I used thermal pads that were 0.5mm too thick on the VRAM, resulting in no contact between the cooler and GPU die.

You wonder if your GPU might be dead after that mishap? Don't worry, most of the modern GPU and CPU dies are advanced enough to protect themselves from overheating by shutting themselves down once they reach critical temperature limits. So your GPU die should most likely still survive, you just have to make sure you change the thermal pads to the correct size and that the cooler has proper contact with the GPU silicon die.

*edit: Tekshinji has made an extremely interesting study that actually sort of proves that if your Vram thermal pads are efficient, you will actually get slightly higher GPU core temps due to the laws of thermodynamics, as a highly heat saturated heatsink is less effective at absorbing heat form the GPU core.
