President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the inauguration of the Poblacion Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in an unveiling ceremony at Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa City on December 15, 2023.

The Poblacion Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is a state-of-the-art, membrane-based water treatment facility boasting a maximum design capacity of 150 million liters per day (MLD).

The Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) embarked on the construction of this PhP11 billion facility in 2021 in a bid to increase the water supply for its customers and to meet the growing demand for potable water. The Poblacion WTP is Maynilad’s third facility to utilize Laguna Lake as an alternate raw water source, supplementing the water from Angat Dam.

Furthermore, it employs a comprehensive, multi-stage treatment process that involves Dissolved Air Flotation, Disc Cloth Filter, Biological Aerated Filter, Ultrafiltration, Reverse Osmosis and Chlorination for disinfection. Through this process, the facility successfully converts raw water from Laguna Lake into a water supply that adheres to the Department of Health’s (DOH) Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.

Once fully operational, the facility is expected to significantly enhance service reliability for approximately 1 million Maynilad customers in the south—specifically in Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Cavite. These areas have often experienced water supply limitations due to increasingly frequent shifts in the water quality of Laguna Lake, attributed to climate change effects.

The Poblacion WTP forms a critical part of Maynilad’s PhP220 billion service enhancement program that spans from 2023 to 2027. This program is primarily aimed at fostering enhanced water sustainability and climate resiliency.
