PCIE 4.0 SSD NVMe drives are slower than the PCi 5.0 NVMe SSD of the current computers but the dive is more than enough speed for most use cases.

I recommend getting the heatsink version of the T500 NVMe as it’s just a bit more expensive and it really helps a lot when writing and reading large files on the drive.

If works well without the heatsink too but the temperature goes easily above 80 degrees Celsius while with the heatsink it’s sitting mostly at 50-60 degrees Celsius even when transferring large files. It does get hot with the heatsink too but much slower and it needs a lot more time of constant full speed write time to get to 70 degrees Celsius or above.

The NVMe SSD cooler I use is not the Crucial but a cooler made by Arctic for this NVMe size.

I installed the Crucial T500 Pro 1Tb in the Arctic M2 Pro heatsink with double-sided thermal pads for M.2 SSDd.

If you want the best cooling, the original heatsink or an aftermarket NVMe heatsink and removing the NVMe label to allow the thermal pads direct contact with the heat generating components is ideal.

IF you’re worried about warranty, keep the sticker on as this also reduces the NVMe temperature by 20 degrees Celsius from what I tested with normal use.

I was looking for a cheaper NVMe SSD and almost bought a Kingston V3 or a Crucial P3 Plus but eventually decided to buy the Crucial T500 Pro because of better TLC vs QLC SSD NAND memory or whatever is called these days.

The SSD Endurance TBW specifications are better from what I understand on this SSD vs the other 2 and the other 2 don’t have DRAM and they have a cache that once filled, it will
Make the SSD come very slow.

The T500 can write the whole 1TB capacity without slowing down too much especially when using the heatsink.
Any slow down is because of temperature rising and trying to reduce the file transfer speed and become cooler.

It comes with Acronis True Image as an extra download to clone a system Windows SSD on to the new SSD so you don’t have to reinstall Windows 11.

The Crucial SSD software is the worse software I saw so far for SSD monitoring, it’s really slow.
The firmware is not easily upgradable from
Windows 11.
