In their first internationals of 2019/20, England recorded victories over Bulgaria and Kosovo.

Overcoming Bulgaria at Wembley was more straightforward than Bernard Challandes’ team proved at St Mary’s on Tuesday evening. Harry Kane’s hat-trick and a further goal from Raheem Sterling gave the former little chance in a 4-0 win.

Against Kosovo they built a four-goal lead by half-time, before two finishes early in the second half put Gareth Southgate’s team under pressure. They eventually won 5-3.
