Harold and Maude ending w/no freeze-frame of car going over cliff

Here is the ending to the movie with the freeze-frame of Harold's car going over the cliff edited out. I LOVE this movie but I absolutely cringe every time I see that freeze frame. The makers claim they "had to" add it because the other cameras malfunctioned and they didn't have enough angles on film to do it any other way, but I think this crude edit is still much better than what they did. With better sound effects added in I believe it would be perfect.
They obviously added the freeze-frame to prove to the first-time viewer that yes, *lookie lookie* we really did drive that beautiful car off a cliff. I just think the crash is so understated and REAL in this edit--it matches the rest of the movie perfectly.
