How Sounds on Mars Differ from Earth | Real Audio from NASA Perseverance Rover

Did you know sound works differently on Mars than it does on Earth?

Mars has a much thinner atmosphere than Earth, which means sound would be more muffled, quieter, and different in tone compared to what we hear on our planet.

NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover has two microphones that record real audio on the Red Planet. Since landing in February 2021, Perseverance has captured incredible sounds from Mars, including:

🔸 Martian wind
🔸 Dust devils moving across the surface
🔸 The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter whirring during flight
🔸 The rover’s wheels crunching over rocky terrain

This video features real sounds from Mars (NoVoiceover) recorded directly by NASA’s Perseverance rover.
