Increased risk of rabies after 3 bats test positive in Adams County

Full Story: Bats are more active this time of year, so local public health experts are warning about the risk of rabies exposure. The Adams County Health Department reports three bats in the county in the past two months have tested positive for rabies -- one in the northwest, another in the east, and one from the southwest part of the county.

Whether it's dead or alive, if you come near a bat, don't touch it, hit it, or destroy it. Call Animal Control at (217) 277-2145 to collect the bat and call your healthcare provider immediately to report the exposure and get treatment if needed.
