2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lerado - Anti Theft system nightmare

Anti theft system engaged when I started my jeep and wouldn't reset. Had to bypass system in order to drive it home. System still armed and the electronics to the drivers door is disabled. Dealership was helpless because they couldn't figure it out without throwing a $400-$500 tag on it just to look at it without a promise to fix it. Why isn't there a recall with all the issues out there on it and why isn't the system set up for the owner to shut it off so they can still drive it?
