Sketchbook Tour: My Very First Sketchbook!
Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Upon your request, today I am sharing my very first(ish) sketchbook! Not from when I was a kid or teenager, but the sketchbook that eventually initiated my sketchbook practice, as it is now.
Even though I don't love looking at these very first pages, I think it's valuable to show them, because it illustrates how artists develop, grow, change course, and find their style throughout the year and through their practice.
In this sketchbook that I'm showing you, I was exploring the idea of illustrating children's books. I enjoyed developing characters at the time, and coming up with story lines. I did also sort of journal about my day, by drawing myself (as kind of a character or comic book figure) in the situation I was in that day, from imagination.
If I hadn't discovered that the sketchbook itself could be my form of art (instead of a stage between ideas and actual projects outside the sketchbook), I don't know where I would be now, creatively. Anyway, I am so happy where I am now, because my sketchbook practice fits me, and is such an important part of my life. I wouldn't want to miss it and I wish for everybody to experience the daily joy of it!
Interested to see more? I posted a second video on Patreon, which contains three more sketchbooks. It's available for Draw Tip Tuesday Friends and Draw Tip Tuesday Club Members.
Patreon-only videos, posts, and inspiring content are the perks of joining me on Patreon. Check out my Patreon page, look at the three different tiers and see which would be a good fit for you:
