OU BBC S342 NEW Ep 3 of 3 Fighting Rust in Your Car Physical Chemistry 1995
Have you ever wondered why old model cars rust? They're more prone to rusting certain areas like the seals or round the door. This program explores this phenomenon and what can be done to reduce rusting of steel by various technologies including electroplating with zinc and chrome plating of critical areas prone to corrosion. The layer only needs a thickness of a few microns to be effective however what happens if the layer is scratched? Program goes inside Rover's Cowley factory. Thankfully modern cars today don't suffer to the same extent as there predecessors and corrosion technology has come a long way. These days rusting on new cars has been eliminated thanks to years of research.
