Minecraft was created by Swedish programmer Markus Persson, known as Notch, in 2009. Inspired by games like Infiniminer, he began developing a block-based sandbox game that allowed players to build, explore, and survive in a procedurally generated world. The first playable version was released in May 2009 and quickly gained attention for its open-ended gameplay and creative freedom.

The game’s graphics were intentionally simple: pixelated textures, blocky models, and a limitless world made of cubes. This minimalist design encouraged creativity and exploration. The music, composed by Daniel Rosenfeld (known as C418), added a calm and nostalgic atmosphere. His ambient tracks, like “Sweden” and “Minecraft,” became iconic among fans.

As Minecraft grew, development was taken over by Jens Bergensten (Jeb), who continued adding new features, biomes, and mechanics. Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, became a major name in the gaming world.

In 2014, Microsoft acquired Mojang and the rights to Minecraft for $2.5 billion. This allowed the game to expand across platforms and benefit from Microsoft’s technology and resources.

Today, Minecraft is one of the best-selling and most influential games of all time. It continues to evolve, inspiring millions of players around the world to build, explore, and create.
