Should I choose a drop through or top mount longboard? Both mounting options have advantages and disadvantages for different types of riding. In general, drop through mounting makes your board lower, more stable, and easier to push, but gives it less grip when cornering. This makes it great for cruising, carving, long distance pushing, and beginners who want to learn to slide. Top mounting gives you a taller ride height that translates to a more responsive, divey turn with more leverage on your trucks, and more grip when cornering. This makes it great for cruising, carving, freeride, and downhill. However, top mounts are less stable and harder to control at higher speeds, so drop through mounting is often preferred for beginners who are learning to freeride and downhill.
