Creatures (Siouxsie and Budgie) Interview @ WHFS 1-16-90

Touring to do interviews only in January 1990 Soiuxsie and budgie stopped by radio station WHFS in Annapolis Maryland to promote the "Boomerang'' album. It may be unfortunate that they were interviewed by Neci, a fill in DJ for the popular 'Weasel" who was on vacation. Her ignorance of both Creatures and Banshees may have resulted in them revealing more information for fans than the usual questions repeated from city to city. I recorded this at my job and the station had a tendency to 'float' on my radio so it is not a completely clean recording. Songs were edited out at the time to create space on the cassette tape. They were schedules to be there from 2-4 so I wanted to make certain I could record all of the dialog, though I missed some because of my job.
They appeared at Tower Records in Washington D.C. and I raced from work in Rockville by way of the Metro in order to get to the store in time. That meant I had only the money in my pocket with me and after buying the Metro ticket I was left with very little in order to purchase a CD or record for them to autograph. I did have my camera with me and took the two photos you see in the video. I bought a cassette - the least expensive item that would still allow me a ride home and they each autographed it. I scanned the autographs and you will see Siouxsie signed it to my band 'The MIsfit Toys' while Budgie simply signed with a silver sharpie.
I would have liked to post other photos so there is something to look at while listening but I had only the two plus the scans. I have been a photographer and musician too long to use other people's images without credit or permission.

I would like to invite all the fans and viewers of Siouxsie and the Banshees music to watch a few videos of the original Misfit Toys. Formed in 1985 we were not a Banshees copy or tribute band. Based in the Area near Washington DC where original music was encouraged sets were usually thickened with cover material by bands we liked or who were influenced by. Our bandmates came from very different musical backgrounds but for the most part either liked or appreciated the Bansheees, The Cure, Blondie, The Ramones, Echo and the Bunnymen along with a wide array of 1980's alternative bands.I was principal song writer but each band member wrote his or her part in a blend that worked out quite well. We only played covers for about a year and they were always mixed in with our originals. Of the two dozen or so videos on Youtube there are only a few covers but one might agree they are unusual choices. We all enjoyed 'Gothic' music' but we each also had a foundation in basic rock. The bands we listened to naturally influenced our writing so it seemed to round out the view of the band with a few cover videos. If you are a Banshees fan I would suggest our cover of ' Paradise Place' or Christine'. For the Cure we covered "Primary,' :M" and' In Between Days"'. No, there is not video of each of these on Youtube since they were in the early days of the band but there is a nice version of 'Paradise Place'' that I edited and uploaded last year. I believe our songs "Dark House'', "This Night"" "Domino" and our national hit "The Ordinary'' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4C6Dphcs8oall give hints of where our hearts lay at the time. "The Ordinary' video was recorded in 1989 and edited in 2019. Sometime this summer a new song by Misfit Toys will be posted featuring a very long and dark song titled "The Haunt" that may have more of a Bauhause or SOM influence. You can decide.
I would love to hear from fans or former fans so feel free to comment.
