WARNING!!! Mouthwatering Mexican Street Taco 🇲🇽🌮

We haven't even heard of this taco before visiting Mexico and for us this taco is the best proof that Mexico is one of the best destinations for street food in the world. you might have eaten tacos before, but have you heard of Tlacoyos ? We are so glad we found it out and had a chance to taste it. Be sure to check more detail and our reaction in the video.

So at this stall there are 2 version that we can order, the flat one with nothing stuffed inside, and the other version is kinda like the thick dough tortillas with more of oval, half moon, empanada shape and the best part is that it’s filled with beans!! which we never had it anywhere before and have never even seen it outside Mexico so that’s why we decide to order that version of taco.

Here is the fun part, after it passed through the stage of Slight pan frying, then we can pick whatever topping we want either it be mushroom, potatoes, chicken, salsa, cilantro. There are more than 10 varieties for you to pick so they have something for everybody no matter if you are vegetarians or meat lovers who travel in Mexico City.

Admittedly, as you can see in this vlog, we did not know the name of this taco while we were eating there but after that we did some research and here is what wikipedia says :

A tlacoyo [tɬaˈkoʝo] is an oval-shaped pre-Hispanic Mexican dish made of masa, also called tlayoyis, clacoyos, tlatloyos, tlayoyos and tlaoyos. Somewhat torpedo-shaped, they are fatter than fresh corn tortillas and stuffed with cooked ground beans, cheese, fava beans, chicharron or other ingredients and fried or toasted. Tlacoyos can be served as an accompaniment to soups and stews or as appetizers for celebrations. Most traditional tlacoyos do not have lard or salt in the masa, and if not eaten soon after they are cooked, they become very tough and dry, even if reheated. In Mexican markets, vendors keep their tlacoyos warm by putting them in a covered basket, with the additional effect that the steam keeps them moist for a longer time. This dish is similar to the Salvadoran pupusa.

Tlacoyos come in three different colors, although no artificial colors are added to its preparation. The color comes from the cornmeal used to prepare the masa which the tlacoyo is made with. The most common is blue masa, made from blue corn kernels
