Ketamine Is RSI Option in Some Pediatric Patients
Ketamine in rapid sequence intubation has been controversial, as the N-methyl-D-aspartate agonist can have adverse effects including oxygen desaturation, apnea, laryngospasm, vomiting, and schizophrenia-like syndrome (hallucinations, delusions, agitation, dissociation). However, support exists for its use, especially in asthma, septic shock, and head trauma, said Dr. Mark G. Roback at the Advanced Pediatric Emergency Medicine Assembly.
