Mark 16: 15-20 Go Into All the World
Today's GOSPEL and REFLECTION
Mark 16: 15-20
And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover."
So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.
And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen.
REFLECTION:
Today, we honor St. Mark, author of the second Gospel. A key early Church figure, he accompanied St. Paul and St. Peter. Despite a sharp disagreement with Paul, they reconciled, and Paul later praised him as a valuable coworker. Mark was especially close to Peter, who called him "my son." Tradition says Mark's Gospel records Peter's preaching, preserving it for the Church.
Mark's life embodied the Great Commission from today's Gospel: "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature." Jesus promised signs for believers—driving out demons, speaking new languages, handling serpents. These hold deep spiritual meaning, even if sometimes miraculous.
We are all called to evangelize. We "drive out demons" by bringing Christ's light to sin's darkness. We "speak new languages" as the Holy Spirit helps us share God's love, transforming hearts. The "serpents" are temptations and evils that God's grace empowers us to overcome.
Ask yourself: Are we living this commission? Don't fear challenges. Trust God's protection. United with Christ, let your life witness His saving message to the world.
