Taiwan appealed to residents to avoid panic buying of items, such as instant noodles and toilet paper, amid a spike in Covid-19 infections. Taiwan reported 206 new local infections on May 16, 2021, a day after raising its coronavirus alert level in Taipei and surrounding cities, and imposing a two-week restriction on gatherings.
