*UPDATE* It's not clear in the manual but even thought it powers on via USB you cannot access settings menu unless the 12V adapter is also connected. Also, the buttons and remote didn't work. Upon opening it I found the flex to the PCB was not centered in the connector and the locking tab required trimming to allow it to fit better and align with the pins.
