What Happens During An Eye Exam

Eye exams are good for overall health...even if you have perfect vision. Simple and painless, it not only checks for vision problems, but can also detect signs of other serious health conditions too, like diabetes and high blood pressure.

First your doctor will get to know you and your health history. Past injuries or illness can affect your vision, so it's important to share that information with your doctor.

Then your doctor will determine the sharpness of your vision by covering each eye separately and asking you to follow an object.

Next your doctor will determine your prescription needs by placing lenses in front of your eyes and asking you which helps you see more clearly. Adjustments are made until your vision is perfectly measured. If you need vision correction, your doctor will determine your prescription with this information.

Your doctor will also look at a magnified view of the front and inside of the eyes to examine all eye structures for any potential signs of vision or health conditions.

Next, if you need vision correction, your doctor can help you get the frames and lenses that meet your needs...or contacts if that's what you prefer.

If you don't have vision insurance through your employer, you can sign up for individual or family vision insurance at www.vspdirect.com.
