Recently, PCAUTO, as the first automotive media to enter the second production line of Tesla Shanghai Super Factory, got a close visit to the domestic Model Y final assembly workshop. What are some of the highlights of the super factory that is different from traditional automobile factories? What processes does the production process of domestic Model Y undergo? Without further ado, we will enter the factory at once.

Shanghai Super Factory Highlights:

* Model 3 and Model Y have separate production lines - the first line produces Model 3s and the second line produces the Model Ys;

Tesla Speed in one word: efficient

Tesla Shanghai Super Factory Phase II production line was laid on January 7, 2020, less than a year, on December 30, the same year will realize the first 15 new cars rolled off the assembly line. We should know that only two years after the Shanghai factory started, the first and second production lines have been put into operation. The construction progress of infrastructure fanatic is so rapid that it is unique in the world.

Somewhat surprisingly, the flexible production mode (commonly known as co-line production), which is common in traditional automobile plants, Teslas Shanghai superplant did not adopt it, instead producing the Model 3 and Model Y separately.
 
Unfortunately, because Tesla only opened part of the final assembly room for us to visit and shoot, this factory visit will not be introduced according to the production sequence, but mainly show the highlights of the production link.

Assembly line: Two-tiered layout, vehicles assembled like a Lego
  
Different from the traditional car factory wide production environment, the second stage production line assembly workshop area is not large, even a little cramped feeling - it seems that Teslas cost control, from the plant construction area planning stage began.

Restricted to a limited area, the second production line uses a two-layer layout to develop into the air, which is relatively rare in the traditional automobile factory. The production of Model Y starts from the second floor.

According to Tesla officials, the second production line is currently single-shift production, producing about 700 cars a day, The resulting production beat is about 29 JPH (Jobs Per Hour, or an average output of 29 cars per hour).

Tesla officials previously said that the second phase of the Shanghai superplant is expected to produce 200,000 cars a year. According to the current production rate, it is only a matter of time to reach or even exceed this projected output.
