Webinar: Will the Covid-19 pandemic reshape the future of international development cooperation?
This CIDGA/CIDRN webinar features CGD president Masood Ahmed along with other development experts.
When the Covid-19 pandemic firstly broke out in China, the international community actively provided emergency assistance to China, many of which are from developing countries. With the global outbreak of pandemic, a few developed countries have become epidemic centers of the disease and also received emergency aid from developing countries. The impact of the pandemic is not limited to the field of human health. It not only impacts the global economy, but the relationship between countries and the way people look at international cooperation will also change. Will the new type of international emergency humanitarian assistance from the South to the North formed during the pandemic expand into the field of development cooperation post Covid-19? Will the form of South-North Cooperation become the normal state of international development cooperation like South-South Cooperation, completely eliminating the boundary between North-South and South-South cooperation and the long-term "donor-recipient" dual identity politics in development cooperation architecture? What opportunities and challenges will the pandemic bring to bilateral and multilateral cooperation? How can the vast number of developing countries reduce their dependence on aid and achieve sustainable development under the new international context? In this session, we are very honored to have experts and scholars from the fields of international development cooperation in the United Kingdom, France, the United States and China with us to discuss the future of international development cooperation after the Covid-19 Pandemic.
