Ankle joint anatomy
The anatomy of the ankle joint (or talocrural joint) is between the tibia, fibula and talus bones. They form a hinged synovial joint supported by a deltoid ligament complex medially and some lateral ligaments, most notably the anterior talofibular ligament (because it is often injured).
