“Playing Jazz, knowing how to read music and being able to ‘swing’ are the foundation of all modern drumming styles,” Drum Channel founder Don Lombardi explains. “Ed’s ‘Jazz Improvisation” courses provide proven, time-tested instruction on these concepts plus lessons on stick control, independence and musicianship— essential skills every drummer needs whether they play jazz, pop, Latin, rock, R&B or metal.”
Ed Soph is recognized as one of the world’s top drum educators. Among many other honors and awards, he was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society’s Hall Of Fame in 2016. During his tenure at the University of North Texas (UNT) and the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Workshops, his students included Keith Carlock, Jason Sutter, Blair Sinta, Rich Redmond, Ari Hoenig, Steve Houghton, JR Robinson and many more. Ed has also performed with a host of legendary jazz musicians including Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Bill Watrous, Clark Terry, Joe Henderson, Bill Evans, Lee Konitz, Randy Brecker and Cedar Walton.
