On January 3, 2026, the United States launched a massive military–intelligence operation, code-named Operation Absolute Resolve, against Venezuela. Under cover of darkness, the US Navy, Air Force, and special forces (including Delta Force) bombed key military sites and then landed helicopters at Maduro’s presidential compound in Caracas, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

Without any UN approval or formal declaration of war, the US flew Maduro to the USS Iwo Jima and then into US custody in New York, where he now faces narco-terrorism charges in a federal court.
