The Black Museum was a mystery/true crime drama hosted and narrated by Orson Welles. It was based on actual cases from the files of Scotland Yard's Crime Museum, which was and still is used mainly for police training and not open to the public.

Each episode centered on a piece from the museum's collection of weapons and ordinary objects, made extraordinary by their association with real-life crimes. The show aired in the United States between January 1 and December 31, 1952.

Host/narrator Orson Welles was one of the most influential radio stars and filmmakers in American entertainment history. His first film Citizen Kane, which featured many groundbreaking lighting effects, camera angles and sound techniques (borrowed from radio), is still considered one of the greatest movies ever made.

He followed up with many more classics such as The Lady from Shanghai, Touch of Evil, The Magnificent Ambersons, The Third Man and The Stranger. His Mercury Theatre's production of The War of the Worlds in 1938 became one of the most famous radio broadcasts in history when many listeners thought it was real and caused a national panic.
