The Chilika Development Project is an integrated socio-economic model designed to modernize the lives of local fishermen while preserving the lagoon's delicate ecosystem. The project centers on a centralized Fishing Hub powered entirely by a solar micro-grid, which provides renewable energy for cold storage units and ice plants to prevent post-harvest losses. To revolutionize logistics, Smart Transportation is introduced through IoT-enabled electric boats (E-boats) equipped with GPS for safe navigation and solar-integrated roofs for continuous charging. These boats connect the fishing grounds to the hub, where a digital marketplace allows fishermen to track real-time market prices, ensuring fair trade. Education forms the backbone of the initiative, with a Floating Marine School that provides vocational training in sustainable aquaculture and digital literacy to the youth. The system works by capturing solar energy through PV panels, storing it in lithium-ion batteries, and distributing it to the cold chain and charging docks. This reduces the community's reliance on expensive, polluting kerosene and diesel, significantly cutting carbon emissions.
