Houston Police Chase 7-21-2006
Merry Christmas!
Back for your enjoyment. One of the best police chases to occur in the Houston area. This will most likely be the final version of this video. Sadly I do not have my original copy of this chase anymore, so what you see here is all that remains.
Houston Chronicle - A robbery suspect surrendered to police around 6 p.m., bringing an end to a two-hour chase in which authorities said the man fired at a squad car and rammed several civilian vehicles before plunging his pickup into a waterway off Beltway 8.
The man, suspected of robbing a Pasadena dry cleaner, remained in the partially submerged truck cab between Spencer and Fairmont for more than an hour, negotiating with officers late today and at one point put a pistol in his mouth, said Capt. Bud Corbett, spokesman for Pasadena Police Department.
It's unclear whether the driver was injured.
The driver, whom police have not identified, allegedly robbed the Queen Oaks cleaners about 2:30 p.m. today moments before the chase began, Corbett said.
The truck driver parked outside the store, went inside, asked about cleaning prices, pointed a gun at a woman working the counter and demanded money, said Alex Pena, the woman's co-worker who said he was not at the store during the robbery.
Pena said the woman, who did not recognize the man, gave the driver the money from the cash register. After he drove away, she called Pasadena police. The chase began about 2:50 p.m. after police were alerted to the robbery and ended about 4:45 p.m.
Corbett said a Pasadena police officer was involved in a crash during the chase, but had no details about it or whether anyone was injured.
As news cameras on helicopters broadcast the chase live, the driver of the white 1996 Chervolet pickup swerved in traffic, hitting several cars and narrowly missing the rear end of an 18-wheeler.
The truck careened into grassy fields along Texas 288 to avoid slower moving traffic. Corbett said the truck drove a winding route along Texas 288, Interstate 45 and other roadways for about an hour and half before crashing into the waterway.
