The Observers — What happens to a brain without its reference signal

The first thing you need to understand is the sound. Not the hum of the generators at Dikson, but the silence
that followed when the mirrors were activated. The way the ambient VLF hiss—the planetary radio
frequency chatter we carry in our bones—does not fade. It vanishes. That absence has a texture. Like
pressing a seashell to a deaf ear and hearing the blood instead of the ocean. That is the moment the
researchers were studying: not the presence of a field, but the physics of its removal.
