BYU Life Sciences Internships
This video explains how to receive class credits for your internships!
The College of Life Sciences offers an experience-based internship credit called LFSCI 199R. It is a Pass/Fail credit for shadowing, volunteering, or working a job related to your major. Students must spend 45 hours on the experience for each 1.0 credit hour they want to earn. Students can choose to enroll in anywhere from 0.5 a credit to 3.0 credits per semester.
Applying for internship credit includes several action items that we will explain in this video. BYU will not coordinate or assign an internship for you. However, on our website lsinterns.byu.edu, you can find internship opportunities and view past internships that other life sciences students have done to get ideas.
On the website, you can also access the syllabus and start your internship application for approval in the college of life sciences. Once you have found an internship experience and you are ready to enroll in the credit, submit your application on the website. Your application will then be reviewed by the internship coordinator. Watch for an email from internship_lifesciences@byu.edu about your application status. If approved, the email will line out in clear details your action items prior to registration in LFSCI 199R.
These action items for enrollment include submitting an IRAMS application for approval from BYU, completing an online orientation, and scheduling an appointment to meet with the internship coordinator.
Once you are enrolled, there are a few requirements to receive credit for the course:
complete all required experience hours
write a short reflection paper on the impact of your experience
submit an agency evaluation
attend an exit interview.
We thank you in advance for being willing to fulfill the requirements needed to enroll in your internship course. We hope that your experience will help you learn and grow within your field of study.
